The typical general flow for using the Jira Connector is as follows:

1. Download, install, and register the Jira Connector for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. (For details, refer to Jira Connector Installation and Registration Guide).

2. In Jira, create a Project. (Note, that the Project must be company-managed, not team-managed).

3. Create a Task under the Jira Project from p. 2.

4. Log time on the Task from p. 3 with Tempo.

5. In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, go to Jira Connect Setup and configure the settings to personalize your synchronization process as per your company’s project management and invoicing rules:

Note: See the detailed explanation of Jira Connect Setup fields here.

Also, see Mandatory Settings: Checklist to find out which settings must be set up to minimize errors during the first sync from Jira.

6. (Recommended). Switch on Change Log for JC Setup for an easier process of troubleshooting in the future. Refer to How to Activate Standard BC Change Log for JC Setup.

7. Click Sync All.

Alternatively, use the Sync Tasks menu to import/process only Projects / Issues / Worklogs / Timesheets.

8. After the sync process is completed, click Open Errors and fix the errors (if any).

Expected outcome: A job is created, based on the Project imported from Jira, and the issue is imported as a Job Task Line

Worklog from Tempo is created in Business Central as a Job Ledger Entry with Entry Type Usage.

9. After the Job Planning Line is created, post it using the standard BC functionality.

10. Go to the Jobs Page and click Suggest Billable Lines:

The Suggest Billable Lines functionality is a tool that helps to create Billable Job Planning Lines.

The internal logic of calculations of suggested billable lines depends on the Contract Type of the Job Task.

Important! To get the most out of working with Jira Connector, follow the instructions for the specific contract type you are using (see below). Pay attention to mandatory settings in Jira Connect Setup and the flow of billable lines calculation for each contract type.
